7/12/2023 0 Comments Aragami 2 join room timed outGameplay in base game is much faster than DLC so it's a little jarring. Was expecting a stealthy hack-and-slash but it was actually a stealthy hit-and-run. Flow, then, like an irresponsibly sharp ice-sculpture of a hummingbird. Flow like water, it says stabby water, with wings. ‘Breezy’ seems like an odd word to slap on a stealth game - a measured, sometimes plodding genre - but it fits ninj-em-up Aragami 2 perfectly. The trailer doesn't do a great job showcasing the game you're buying. Perfect for a quick-fix of stealth, and joyfully light on its feet. All in all I had a great time and got all the achievements, but I wish the game was way faster paced than it is. I wish that instead of being an "ammo" system, they would just give you cooldowns and recharge over a set amount of time, and maybe have melee kills refund a bigger portion of a cooldown. This is more grounded on the DLC end of things, because in the base game they give you some abilities that help you regenerate resources a little faster, and gives you "defensive" abilities to help you recharge your offensive ones, but it still just feels a little lacking to me. It feels like the gameplay without abilities is propping up the abilities overall, when it should be the opposite. Once you're out of ammo, you're forced to play a hit-and-run style game singling enemies out instead of the abilities, since you can't take on more than 1 guard at a time. It looks SUPER cool and is very satisfying to do, but the charge up time for it, especially in the DLC, leaves me wishing it gave you more mileage. The only ways to restore ammo for your abilities is by using shrines, of which there are only 2 or 3 per level, or using your "ultimate" attack and killing an enemy with a shadow beast. Unless an enemy is completely singled out, you can't really fight the guards hand-to-hand despite 3 or 4 of them bunching up at times. I get why you shouldn't just be able to strongarm your way through everything, as it adds a layer of strategy and makes you have to regroup and think, but I wish they had struck a better balance. Being a shadow based assassin, supposedly the greatest of your clan, you would think that you could just cleave your way through as many enemies as necessary to the end of a level in a couple of minutes, but the ammo count for all your fun abilities is pretty low at times. My only real gripe is about how it doesn't really let you zoom through it. It gives some neat backstory to the events leading up to Aragami though, and world building which I always appreciate. The DLC isn't exactly a great deal just because it's half the price but only a third of the content so the money/product ratio doesn't line up very well, with the DLC having only 4 chapters compared to the 13 chapters in the base game. Kinda short, but very fun game for as cheap as it is, especially when it goes on sale. I have not ever touched the multiplayer co-op aspects so you might get way more mileage out of it than I did.
